Mary Berezuk Mariam Horyn was born in 1907 December 13 and passed away 2010 December 03 Mary Berezuk. She was Baptized 1908 February 13, by the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Mundare Alberta. Mary was the 6th of 4 other sisters and 5 brothers. She was very proud of them her whole life. Mary was born to Gregory (Harry) Horyn and Anna Horyn nee Panylyk. Gregory and Anna Horyn both came from the village of Mawnyw, in the county of Peremysyl, Halychyna (now in Ukraine). Mary Horyn was married to Paul Berezuk pre deceased. Mary and Paul Berezuk had 2 children pre deceased Rudolph Berezuk and Lyle Paul Berezuk. Mary is survived by 2 of her 4 grandchildren Zane Lyle Berezuk, Marcelle (Marcel) Berezuk, pre deceased grandson’s Shayne Benson Berezuk and Lyle Mitchell Berezuk from the marriage of Lyle Berezuk and Christine Benson. Mary also has one great grandson Clinton Snidal. Mary was a significant contributor in keeping the family farm by helping with rental housing upkeep, raising and selling turkeys and other produce. Mary lived the pioneer life starting in Mundare. After grade 8 she worked the farm while her brothers went onto higher education. A common pioneer strategy of the day. After marrying Paul and building up a nest egg they established their homestead west of Lloydminster. Mary lived there until mid winter 2007-2008. She then went to the Islay Assisted Living where she received wonderful care. Love of nature was one of Mary's sacred centers for her entire life. It came from her Father Harry, as she described often, one day in the field she asked her father why he saved the hazel nut bushes from the plow. Harry replied "because they hold bird nests and are an important part of nature". She held great pride in showing her grandchildren how she could coax a wild partridge to feed out of her apron while kneeing down. Remembering you Mary, with cherish and love.
