On behalf of 4801 (CLC '70-71) Bill, Rick and I... Lindsay, extend our sincerest condolences to Donna and family. Bob lived life to its fullest, even back then. That's how Donna came into the picture! Glad we got to touch base a couple of years ago... sorry he's gone. The good Lord will shake his head when we get together again. Lindsay

Beautiful tribute to Bob, so glad we were able to watch and take part virtually. Between Dixon and Dennis, they have many stories of Bob to remember him by. Thoughts and prayers go out to you Donna and to your family as you navigate this difficult time without him.

Norma and Lisa Albes
I’d like to share a memory from Bobs favourite British Guest. He’ll always remember what a great job Lisa did of mowing the lawn AKA cutting the grass. The choice of the day was “would I like to help move the cows (not sure what that entailed) or Cut the grass. Having No Driving Experience Bob left ME a BRIT in charge of the tractor. So I started cutting the grass, thinking I was doing ok not to crash into anything, BOB comes out shouting “LISA! If you could try to go in straight lines that would be a great help”. So I take it my circular, higgledy piggledy patterns were NOT to Bobs taste. Needless to say was never asked to do this again. Thank God I didn’t choose to move the Cows!!! On the evening of the same day, Bob was master of the Barbeque as always, and we were breaking in the new HOT TUB on the deck. Bob gave me a steak, so i politely said “Bob, its a bit too pink for me, there’s blood coming out of it, can you put it back on for a bit longer please. Bob replied “that’s how we eat them in Canada” rolled his eyes and slapped it back on the bbq, waited 10 seconds and shouted me back. “All done Lisa. Just a bit longer please Bob to which he huffed and puffed and slapped it back on. This may have happened a further few times to which finally BOB said “you Bloody Brits with your overdone steak” sacrilege!!! Now every time I have an overdone steak here, I here the words “SACRILEGE”…. Lovely funny memories of you Bob.
Norma would like to add, the time you came out to Hawaii to visit Carole we all went down to Hanauma Bay for a swim, not being the strongest swimmer I didn’t VENTURE as far out as Bob and Carole,. happily looking at the fish with my snorkel, I suddenly hear shouts SHARK, well if you could imagine the view from where I was, Carole’s arms were waving about, Bob was swimming like he wanted a place in the Olympics, my bikini top came loose as I rushed to shore trying to keep my bits from falling out… To this day Carole and I cannot really be sure Bob wasn’t just doing what Bob does best….Leaving us a lovely funny memory and ones that I hope everyone will always talk about, being the only Boy in The Smallwood Family, he cannot have missed being influenced by his three wonderful Sisters, Marion, Lorraine and Carole.. you were a special Man to all who knew you Bob and that spread across the Atlantic for sure

Living in the US we only had snippets of time with Bob. Today, remembering those occasions, brings back a wealth of bittersweet memories.
Across the years, Bob’s core character remained the same–he thrived on people, and they responded. He was at ease meeting and including strangers; always welcoming and sharing old friends. Bob embraced new experiences for better or worse; always looking for the silver lining. And he was patient and compassionate with all things Daechsel.
We were never disappointed by what we did during our time together, only disappointed that it was over. Which brings us to today-–grateful that we had the time we did with Bob, and for the memories; but he will be sorely missed.

Thank you for sharing this Tribute to Bob’s life with us . Marion, Lorraine and Carol ;
I am sorry for the loss of your brother, Bob. Please send our condolences to Bob’s family for us. We only met him a few times at family events , Bob always was so easy to visit with and always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye. When he was young I sometimes thought he was one of the Hafso’s with his blond hair and blue eyes. Sorry , last time I was in Irma was at Butch and Marion’s Wedding. I see Bob had a beautiful wife and great looking children and grandchildren. I am so happy that he had a wonderful life ; I know why the twinkle was in his eye now. He was very blessed!

Our sincerest condolences to you Donna and your family and to our cousins Lorraine, Marion, and Carol.
Bob's Aunt Alice Hafso (Kjos), my brother Tony and I watched the tribute to Bob together today. I remember Bob when I was a little girl and my cousin Monica and I stayed with Aunt Peggy. Monica had just lost her father and Bob was so kind - he teased us and made us laugh. He definitely had a twinkle!
He will be so dearly missed because he clearly loved each of you very much. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.

Our condolences Donna, Craig, Chelsea, and Caitlin. Next door neighbours and friends. So many memories! We golfed together, played hockey together, helped on the farm. My first time driving a swather you took me around the field once jumped off, said “see you in a few days we’re off to Calgary, it’s all yours”. We remember when golfing with you and Donna at Belvedere golf club. It turned out it is Private and you quickly said you were the golf pro from Irma and could they find us a tee time which they did. Bob nobody had better one liners than you. One was “I hope that’s not your best set” when your golf partners clubs were hooked on the bumper of the cart dragging on the ground as you drove down the fairway. Donna do you remember sitting at supper and the broom closet door falling on you. Bob looked up and said, “Donna do you ever get the feeling the house is falling down around your ears.” Like I said, we have so many wonderful memories and have shared so many laughs together. You will be missed my friend. Rick and Marj

My deepest sympathy to you, Donna, Craig and families. I remember well his wonderful sense of humor as I babysat Craig, this was the time when you had 'won' the goat for the summer. Well, numerous stories I can think of but one day that goat butted me right into the open glass doors onto the kitchen floor. I cannot remember how Bob put it when he arrived home to hear my tale of woe, but it had me laughing every day while dealing with this other wild thing in the yard. Take good care all, so sorry to know he is gone. He will be greatly missed by so many.
