Obituary of Marguerite Vella Haydu

Marguerite Vella Haydu (nee Jackson) August 8, 1924 - February 8, 2007 On February 8, 2007, after a life lived courageously and well, Marguerite Haydu of Wainwright, Alberta, formerly of Edgerton, Alberta, passed on at Wainwright Health Centre, having faced her terminal illness for over 2 years with the same bravery and pragmatic approach she displayed all her life. She is survived by her family who grieve their loss and remember her with love, respect and gratitude: son Richard (Beverly) Haydu of Paradise Valley, and their adult children Paige (Art) Reimer, Nigel (Julie) and Carter; daughter Shari (Allan) Lainchbury and their adult son Curtis of North Saanich, B.C.; Caroline (Dave) Antoniuk and their adult children Erin (Gary) Holden and Adrian of Edmonton; and, Vicki (Stephane) Brissette and their daughters Veronique, age 8, and Gabrielle, age 6, of Calgary. Marguerite is also survived by her sister Betty McBride of Wainwright, sister-in-law Elizabeth (Bea) Jackson of Turner Valley, cousins in B.C., many nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Haydu in 1969, her parents Lance and Beatrice Jackson, her brother Bill Jackson, her sister Sylvia Leskow, and her special aunt, Vella Yarwood (nee Jackson) who passed on at the age of 104 in 2004. Before her retirement in 1985, Marguerite was a high school business education teacher at Edgerton K-12 Public School. She began her teaching career in 1943 during World War II, educating students simultaneously in a span of grades at four country schools: LaPerle, Bloomington Valley, Saddle Hill and Old Ribstone in the Edgerton area. After marriage and the birth of her three older children, she resumed teaching in 1958 at Edgerton Public School, upgrading her teacher qualifications at summer session at the University of Alberta. Marguerite again took a break from teaching in 1962 when her youngest child Vicki was born, returning to teaching full time in 1968. Due to the longevity of her teaching career, Marguerite has had an influence in the education of three generations of some families in the Edgerton area. The family wishes to thank Dr. G. Anderson, Dr. G. Stewart Hunter and the nurses and support staff at the Wainwright Health Centre for their professional, dedicated and compassionate care. A service honouring and celebrating Marguerite�s life will be held at Edgerton Agricultural Hall on Monday, February 12, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Her grandson-in-law, Pastor Art Reimer, will conduct the service. A period of fellowship with lunch prepared by the Edgerton Royal Purple Ladies will follow the service. There will be a private family interment service facilitated by Creech�s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, if people wish to make memorial donations, the family suggests that donors consider contributing to the University of Alberta Department of Medicine where promising research results have been reported in the treatment of lung, breast and other cancers.
