Obituary of Eliza Mary Drakes

On Thursday, November 3, 2011 Mrs. Eliza Mary Drakes passed away at the Wainwright Auxiliary Hospital, Wainwright, Alberta at the age of 98 years. She is the last surviving member of her immediately family. She is survived by her partner Edward B. Clarke of 45 years. She will be missed by her sons, daughters, grand-children, great-grand-children and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. She is predeceased by her son Raymond aka (Clarence) and husband Alfred, as well as her sisters Ann, Gertrude, Bertha, her brother Burton (Burtie) and her brother Jack. Her grandson Raymond, and Great-Grandson Jonathan. Eliza was born May 24, 1913 in Sunnyville, Guysborough, Nova Scotia, to the late Burton and Nellie Brodie. She lived in Guysborough for a while then moved to Sydney, on Cape Breton Island, where she worked in the laundry at the Sydney City Hospital. Upon moving to Toronto, Ont., she worked at the Eaton’s Limited as a waitress and the Drake Hotel as a chamber maid. She also worked for two elderly ladies from England as a care giver. She worked for Peter and Yvonne Worthington, of the The Sun. as their Nanny until retirement. She met Edward Clarke and thus began a wonderful life with him. They moved to Vancouver, BC, resided there until she was 94 years of age. She then moved to Wainwright, AB to live out her years with Edward. She will be missed and cherished by all forever.
