Marg was a dear friend. She inspired me with her enthusiasm for living and how she met all of life's many challenges with such a courageous and positive attitude. I admired her for so many things, but I will remember her most for how affirming and encouraging she was to me and others. I will always be grateful for her support and wisdom. She was a great lady.

Aunt Marg was an inspiration to me as I grew up: no matter how hard life got she always has a joke on her lips and a smile on her face. As she was so fond of saying, when life hands you a lemon make lemonade!
She clearly found great joy and satisfaction in conversing with others; family, friends and students were all rewarded by her gregarious spirit that now enjoys ever-lasting peace.
Over the past year I had spoken with her several times about her life in order to learn more about her, and to record her stories on a family website. Incidentally, if any of her relatives or close friends reading this should so wish, please contact me (tr_hartley@shaw.ca or 604-793-0606) and I will invite you to the site so that you may see these stories and the many photos of Marg...and perhaps contribute some of your own? To be found there, of special note, is her life story in which she records major events up to 1980, as well as "My Obituary." She wrote the latter in the summer of 2009...and I feel obliged to note that the title was rather presumptuously re-labelled an 'autobiography' by some well-meaning attendant at the extended care facility who understandably was set aback by the morbid--read realistic--original title provided by a woman who was never one to gloss over the harsh facts of life.
Finally, I would like to express my condolences to everyone experiencing a loss, and to Vasuki in particular. And to end this tribute, as Margaret did her "obituary," with this quote:
Whatever you do with your life--whatever you end up achieving or not achieving--the great gift you have in you to give to the world is the gift of who alone you are: your way of seeing things, and saying things and feeling about things that is like nobody else's.

We were introduce to Mrs Clifford at school in Wainwright when our children were enrolled there in 1975, a few weeks after we arrived from England to our new life in Canada. We knew then what a treasure we had found and and kept. Our children knew and loved Mrs Cliford, and 30+ years after our first meeting she always had time to stop and chat, and remind us of our first meeting. She will be truly missed, but what happy memories she leaves behind.Rest in Peace our dear friend.

We were saddened to see your mom's name in the Journal today and just had to express our sympathy to you, her family. We do not know you personally, but have heard about you many times from mom as we visited with her through the years. She loved you all and I know she will be sadly missed.
You are no doubt wondering who we are, we have been friends since in the, 40's at Irma when she was teaching south of town at a school called Glenholm, so our friendship runs deep. We have kept in touch ever since and felt you should hear from some of her old friends. Please accept our sympathy and love.
Sincerely, Carl and Eunice Gulbraa (now residents at Vialta Lodge at Viking (Box 780 TOB4NO)

Margaret Clifford was an inspiration to all who knew her. Having survived such great trials in her life she blossomed, in her later years, into a woman of remarkable courage, wisdom and great humour. She believed you had to laugh at life and never let it get the better of you.
I will miss her cheerful, funny phone calls and her enthusiastic support and encouragement. I am grateful to have spoken to her just a few weeks prior to her death and to have been able to say goodbye in way.
My family and I would like to express our condolences to all Marg's friends and other family members and especially to her daughter, Vasuki and family.

Our condolences to the family. We have fond memories of Margaret's wit right up to this time. We can't recall a time when we didn't get a laugh about something she'd say. She never seemed to be at a loss for words and wit.

Dear Janice & Family Members, Although you may not know or remember us, we knew Margaret and what a privilege it was. Marg was one of those people who we always expected to see at every community and church event. Her words of wisdom, her humorous wit and her loving nature warmed your soul and she always made you feel special. We have known Marg from the time we were children. John, Sophie and Roman were neighbours and Anne was a friend and schoolmate of Terry's. Marg's life was not an easy one, but she made a choice to make lemonade out of lemons and she inspired all of us to do the same. She will be sadly missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing her over these many years. With Our Love & Sympathy, Sophie (Kalczak) Voros & Family Roman Bobinski & Family John & Anne (Craig) Kalczak & Family

Dear Janice and family,
Our deepest sympathy in the passing of your Mother and Grandmother. I have many fond memories of our time spent at your home, your mom's kindness, calmness and witty humor, especially with a group of teenage girls. Your Mother's outstanding contribution to Education, working especially with those students who had many challenges is an inspiration to all of us and is something I often think of. We hope that you know even though the years have passed by,and your mom's passing signals the end to another time and place, you and your family are still very much in our hearts and thoughts. We are so very sorry we were unable to attend the funeral, however I did not know that Margaret had passed on until it was too late to make arrangements. I would like to have seen you again and been able to pass on our condolences in person. Please keep in touch. With Deepest Sympathy, Derek and Janine Baird

Our sincere condolences. When we lived across the back alley from the Clifford family, memories were of Margaret taking walks and always having time to stop and chat. She was a well spoken and interesting lady. Our thoughts are with you. Ken and Denise

Dear Janice, I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I was recently in touch with Deidre and she told me that you have stayed in contact. It was so nice hearing of you and then I was shocked to hear about your mom. Our sincere condolences to you and your family. The four generations photo here is lovely and was so nice to see your daughter and grandaughter. Best Regards, Cathie
