Obituary of Lorraine Lois Hughes

Lorraine Lois (nee Eklund) Hughes July 27, 1949 - June 11,2013 Lorraine was born July 27, 1949 at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. She spent the first 8 years of her life at the Copithorne Ranch west of Calgary where her father worked. In 1957 the family moved to Queenstown, Alberta where they resided for two years. In the spring of 1959, her family moved to Veteran Alberta and set permanent roots at the X-X ranch south west of Veteran. She attended Veteran School and completed her Grade 10, then work for various people in the community for about year before moving to Calgary in 1965. Upon moving to Calgary she found employment working briefly as a short order cook and waitress before joining the team at Alberta Book and Novelty for nine years. She met and married Clifford Hughes on November 4, 1977. In 1978, they were blessed with their daughter Sherry Leeann. They moved to Airdrie were they resided for many years. A few years after Sherry was born Lorraine returned work. She worked & made many friends in multiple annexes of Alpha/Dairyland/Saputo until 2006. At which time she came back home to Veteran, where she took on the title of "The Cook". Working at the restaurant with her sister (Janice), the bar as well as the kitchen at Dryland Cattle Company Auction Mart, until she took ill on April 2nd, 2013. Lorrraine was a strong willed woman with a huge heart. She worked hard her entire life, but not without taking the time to enjoy the little & simpler things that showed up along the way. Always a loving daughter, a nurturing (grand) mother and "the" big sister to all her siblings. A better friend there is not. Lorraine would always take the time to provide an open ear, a shoulder to cry on & a helping hand with any task. She loved her plants and garden. Shiloh, the cat couldn't have found a better home. Lorraine was predeceased by her mother, Dolores Eklund & her husband (div) Clifford Hughes. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Hughes & granddaughters, Ashliegh & Breanna Luttman. Her father, Ken Eklund. Siblings Marlene (Ron) Freeman, Lavern (Nancy) Eklund, Nancy (Don) Aitken, Percy (Carmen) Eklund & Janice Hatheway (Darwin). Numerous nieces, nephews other relatives as well as countless friends she has made along the way. We will carry you now & forever within our hearts & thoughts till we meet again. You are always with us. Lorraine Lois Hughes passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Coronation Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 63 years. A Memorial Burial honouring Lorraine Hughes took place on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the Veteran Cemetery, Veteran, AB at 1:00 PM. Crossing Over Oh, please don't feel guilty It was just my time to go. I see you are still feeling sad, And the tears just seem to flow. We all come to earth for our lifetime, And for some it's not many years I don't want you to keep crying You are shedding so many tears. I haven't really left you Even though it may seem so. I have just gone to my heavenly home, And I'm closer to you than you know. Just believe that when you say my name, I'm standing next to you, I know you long to see me, But there's nothing I can do. But I'll still send you messages And hope you understand, That when your time comes to “cross over,” I'll be there to take your hand.
