Obituary of Lloyd Werboweski

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lloyd Werboweski of Vermilion at the age of 88 years.

He leaves behind his loving wife Irene, married 63 years, son David of Calgary and daughter Sherry (Wally) Kokotailo of Vegreville and two grandsons Daniel and Jordan Kokotailo of Vegreville, sister Darlene (Martin) Wruck, brother-in-law Robert Holowaty both of Saskatoon, SK as well as other extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Victoria and sister Gloria Holowaty of Saskatoon, SK

In 1958, he graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon as a Civil Engineer.  He spent 7 years with the Federal Department of Transportation building many airport runways and terminal buildings in Fort Chipewyan, Grand Prairie, Lethbridge, Fort St. John, Fort McMurray, Lloydminster and White Horse.

He moved to Vermilion in 1967 working with the Alberta Department of Highways and became District Engineer the following year.  The vast district he was responsible for, extended from Bonnyville to Provost and Lloydminster to Elk Island Park.

One of his proudest achievements was the twinning of Highway 16 from Lloydminster to Elk Island Park.

He was also chief engineer for the construction of the overpass into Vermilion at the intersection of Highway 16 and highway 41 and the underpass in Vermilion on  highway 41, both of which improved traffic flow for the town.  His district received many transportation safety awards through the years.

He retired on July 1, 1993 leaving all the highways in top-notch condition.

He enjoyed curling and his time spent with the Kinsmen Club.  His passion for other sports included Hockey and Baseball.

According to Lloyd’s wishes, no funeral will be held.
