Irwin Raymond Elliott

Irwin was born to Norma and Hugh Elliott in Edmonton AB on January 27, 1953. Irwin was the eldest of 8 children. He had two brothers and 5 sisters. He spent his early years on a farm just outside of Irma, AB. After his father passed away, the family moved to Wainwright, AB., where he finished his schooling.

In the early 1970’s Irwin started working for the Alberta Wheat Pool in Lloydminster. He continued working for the Wheat Pool in Clandonald and Islay until he retired in 1998.

Irwin met his wife Yvonne in 1985 at the Shell Ranchero in Lloydminster and they were married in 1988 at the little stone Church at Deer Creek, SK.  They resided in Blackfoot until 1993 when they moved to Clandonald. They had one son, Bobbie James Elliott born July 1, 1991. After Irwin retired from the Wheat Pool in Islay, the family moved back to Lloydminster.

Irwin contracted work distributing milk to Onion Lake, Porky’s and various out of the way locations. Then he decided to start driving truck, hauling water for different companies in the St. Walburg/Lloydminster area until 2014 when his health started to fail.

Irwin purchased a small cabin at Perch Lake in the early 1970’s. Throughout the years, Irwin and Yvonne and their family always enjoyed their time up there. Spending most Christmases there as well. Irwin would move to the cabin in March and stay up there until late October every year, spending time with his Mom and sisters. Irwin was very resourceful and most people thought of him as the “go to man” when you needed help or answers. He enjoyed doing yard work and was the designated garbage run man! The cabin was his “Happy Place”.

Bobbie and his wife Caitlyn were married at the same little Church as Irwin and Yvonne. Irwin was so proud and happy to welcome Caitlyn into the family. Bobbie and Caitlyn made their home in Marshall, Sk. with their two “furry kids” as Irwin would joke.

Irwin loved his furry friends, always having a dog or cat or two by his side. Irwin loved to hunt and fish, but especially enjoyed ice fishing, it was his favorite winter activity. He took the time to teach his wife and son to appreciate the outdoors as well as to hunt and fish. Bobbie learned to enjoy doing these activities so much that he carried on his father’s tradition and taught his wife to hunt and fish.

Irwin loved to bake, he learned to make Swedish tea rings from his Mother. He mastered a delicious cowboy cookie recipe, and also baked bread and buns in the wood stove at the lake. He was so proud of his baking that he was always posting pictures of his creations on his facebook page.

Irwin was pre-deceased by his mother and father, both of his brothers Leonard and Keith Elliott, brother in-law Glen Smith. His mother in-law Audrey.

Irwin is survived by his loving wife Yvonne, son Bobbie, daughter in-law Caitlyn, sisters Eleanor van den Elzen (John) and family, Donna Smith and family, Doreen Schmid and family, Audrey Elliott and family, Marlene Bolanac (Elio) and family, sister in-law Debbie Elliott and family, Young Sue Elliott and family, sister in-law Phylis Brokopp (Trevis) and family, brother in-law James Ernest Waldron (Guylaine) and family as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of life for Irwin will be held on August 13, 2024 at Perch Lake, SK.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
