Obituary of Nellie Whitson
With hearts full of treasured memories, we announce the passing of Nellie Whitson (nee Swain) of Edmonton (formerly of Wetaskiwin and Mannville), at the age of 94 years. Nellie was born in Mannville on December 31, 1919. She married Russell, a young Mannville farmer, in 1938. As descendants of true pioneering families, they began farming and working as a team, expanding the farm and enjoying the fruits of the land. They sold the farm in 1963, moving to Edmonton and later retiring in Wetaskiwin. During these years, they enjoyed the grandchildren and travelling. As a woman of deep faith and an active member of her community, Nellie was a true inspiration to her family, always setting high standards and providing guidance and encouragement. A gracious, kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be forever missed by her daughter Myrna (Charlie) Gerhart; son in-law Sam (Rhonda) Moussa; grandchildren Todd (Dee), Brad (Amber), Sara Gerhart (Hunter Nottage), Leanne (Masood Qureshi), Medeana (Mark Morrison), and Ahlia Moussa; great grandchildren Ella, Sienna, Chloe Gerhart, Sabir, Amin, Noor Qureshi, Nahlah, Beckett, Safia Morrison and Isla Nottage; sisters Dorothy (Dimp) Johnson and Ethel Hawley; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Russell in 1996; daughter Dianne Moussa in 1977; sisters Myrtle Davis, Rosetta Arnold, Lucille Hughes, and Neva Batt; and brothers Harold, Clarence, and Cleland Swain. The family wishes to thank the care workers at Madyson Manor of Wetaskiwin River Ridge of St. Albert, The Good Samaritan of Southgate, and to Bev Buchholz for all their kind and compassionate care. A Funeral Service Will be held at McQueen Memorial United Church, Mannville on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Mannville Historical Society, McQueen Memorial United Church, or a charity of one's choice.
